Review of the Grand America Executive Suite
Dinner and breakfast
To celebrate our fifteenth anniversary, I decided to take my wife out to Fleming’s Steakhouse at the Gateway. We rode TRAX right by Energy Solutions Arena and got off.
Fleming’s Steakhouse is a great, romantic place for dinner. However – this was not the only reason I chose this play. Back in May – Amex had a Twitter deal for $50 off $100 at Fleming’s Steakhouse. I went by back then and bought a gift card as I knew I would use it as some point. To add to this – in December they were running a promotion to get a $25 credit off a $50 bill for making an online reservation. Combined, this was $50 for $125 worth of food. Romantic place – check. Great value for the money – double check.
My wife and I ordered the sirloin plus a side of mashed potatoes and mushrooms. I would have beautiful pictures of the food to show – but I promised my wife I would take a break from taking pictures for the blog on our anniversary night. The steaks came out just perfect – and tasted succulent.
I did, however, sneak a picture of our dessert – a brownie masterpiece.
With tip and everything, the bill came out to $150. Not too bad for a special anniversary night.
Taking TRAX back to the Grand America, my wife took this picture of the hotel at night.
The next morning, we decided to venture out to find a nice breakfast brunch place. I found a place called Pig and a Jelly Jar that was around the corner. The reviews on Yelp were stellar. Any place that does their own homemade jam had to be good.
We arrived at about 10 am – the dining area is cozy with not too many tables. After a 10 minute wait, we were seated. There were a lot of made from scratch items to choose from – chicken and waffles, ham hash, biscuits and gravy to name a few. As I have a pretty killer biscuits and gravy recipe myself, I decided to go with the chicken and waffles. One of my favorite places to eat is Hash House a Go Go in Las Vegas and San Diego. Their massive chicken and waffles dish, known as “twisted farm food”, is pretty tough to beat.
The chicken and waffles were perfectly cooked with a nice, crisp waffle and a perfectly cooked piece of boneless fried chicken.
My wife opted for the “Kitchen Sink” frittata – sausage, bacon, tomato, onion, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, provolone, with bloody mary salsa. At $10 a plate, there was plenty of food for each of us and we walked away full and happy.
