Saudi Arabia is planning to offer tourist visas in 2018. Currently visa are only given for visitors who are there for work or to visit their holy sites.
This move has been seen by many as a way to offload Saudi Arabia’s dependency on oil and to encourage other industries.
Unesco lists four sites currently in Saudi Arabia including Al-Jihr Archaeological Site, At-Turaif District in ad-Dir’iyah, Historic Jeddah – the Gate to Makkah, and Rock Art in the Hail Region of Saudi Arabia.
For Americans thinking of taking this opportunity to visit Saudi Arabia, the U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning.
The State Department warns U.S. citizens to carefully consider the risks of travel to Saudi Arabia due to continuing threats from terrorist groups and the threat of ballistic missile attacks on civilian targets by rebel forces in Yemen.
