I just went through the process of getting Global Entry for my daughter. The process is straightforward, and the interview consisted merely of checking her documents before she was approved. It cost $100 (the price has since increased to $120).
Dans Deals has pointed out that starting now, the Global Entry application and renewal is free for kids under 18 if a parent has Global Entry.
When I clicked to renew, it said the application fee would be $120: However, I filled out the renewal application with my guardianship information and my Global Entry number and it correctly asked for $0 at final checkout. If you don’t yet have a Global Entry number, you can also provide a Global Entry application number to have the kids fee waived
I unfortunately don’t have any other minor children to test it out on, but Dan did provide screen shots showing a final price of $0. As a reminder, the benefits of Global Entry are: free TSA Pre check, reduced wait times, access to expedited entry benefits in other countries, no paperwork and no processing lines. This $0 cost is for both new applicants and renewals.
Even though I wasn’t able to take advantage of the $0 because I applied for my daughter a couple of months ago, this is a great and positive change for travelers.
Pro tip – oftentimes the Global Entry interview can be at least 9 months out. I have found success using GlobalEntryAlerts.com and have been able to book a time in less than a week.
