Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop

After some snorkeling at Black Rock, we met some family for dinner at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop at the recommendation of our friends who had visited Maui earlier this year. This roadside diner, just minutes from the main resort areas of Lahaina, pops up unexpectedly on the Honoapi’ilani Highway that runs the length of West Maui. With the beach and huge trees along the side, you pull into the sandy, gravel parking lot and walk into a shabby chic beach themed eatery-“old†painted boards on the right of the counter, not too much stuff on the walls, a huge sideboard/hutch with utensils, napkins, extra plates and glasses; simple mirror with patina, and glass case full of decadent mini pies and tarts.

You order at the counter, and then they bring your food to your table. In a little nook you can read the history about the shop, its owners and its namesake. Jason had a burger and fries served with aioli, I had a fresh turkey sandwich-the bread was delicious.

Everyone selected a mini pie for dessert-they are famous for their Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pie-you have to eat everything and anything with macadamia nuts when in Maui, right? The mini was enough-this pie is super rich. Was it good? On our last night, I called just before closing and asked if they had any left-they had one mini pie left, so I asked them to hold it for me, we rushed over after the sunset and ate the last pie in the case.

This is a great place to grab lunch or an early dinner-they close at 8:00 PM. Maui has always been known for the beach, whale watching, the family island and snorkeling-well, it may just be the next foodie destination-and Chef Sheldon and the three brothers who run the Old Lahaina Luau and a few of the best new hot spots are putting Maui on the map!
